Ceramic and the Silk Road
Wei Wang was born in Huzhou, Zhejiang, China and is the vice chairman of China Intangible Cultural Heritage Alliance. Wei is also the director of Culture Institute in Silk Road Research Center at Beijing Jiaotong University. In addition, Wei is a professional researcher in traditional Chinese art and music, world music, and culture landmark, etc. He is highly interested and has put great efforts in the connection between traditional Chinese arts and modern businesses innovations. Throughout 27-year experience in promoting local featured cultural tourism in China, Wei is an explorer and pilot in various cultural exchange programs.
In the year of 2011, ‘Weiwei Kunlun Three Blue Birds’ was founded by Wei. In this collection, elements and pattern of historical relics in silk road were largely used in modern art pieces as well as gorgeous souvenirs. This collection also got the Second Place in China Tourism Commodities Design Contest.
Chicago Arts and Cultural Association (CACA) will co-host a special event on October 3rd with International Women Associates (IWA). At this event, Wei will talk about the innovation in Chinese ceramic industry. He also would like to donate a gourd–shaped vase (“Hulu” in Mandarin) to IWA. This valuable gift will be part of the auction at the 2018 IWA China Gala.
